DAVAO CITY, Oct. 22 (PIA)- One of the most challenging and exciting filmmaking competitions will be holding its newest edition this coming Oct. 31 to Nov. 1, 2020.

The Guerrilla Filmathon is a 24-hour filmmaking competition where teams of filmmakers aim to produce their short films in only 24-hours and at the same time face adventure race-style challenges.

The contest which was conceptualized and jumpstarted in Davao City by the Mindanao Film and Television Development Foundation Inc. (MFTDFI) is an anticipated and sought after event by many local filmmakers in the region.

This year's filmathon in partnership with the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) will adapt the style of "screen life" where the viewers see what is happening on the screens of their computer, tablet or smartphone.

"The filmmaking process will be streamed online and streamed Live for everyone to see, since due to the pandemic there are limitations to the usual shootings and physical challenges we thought of doing this (screen life)," says Guerrilla Filmathon event coordinator Ivan Tadena.

The edition will have filmmakers create 3 to 10 minute short films in "screen life" with P50,000 worth of prizes at stake.

Participating filmmaking teams include: Team Babagum, Buklat Creations, Team Dugmok, Duwende Films all from Davao City, RDV Entertainment from Las Pinas, Tambay Series from Koronadal, Ilustrados from Ozamis, Blank Productions with members from the cities of Davao, Cotobato and Panabo.

This is the 8th edition of the Guerrilla Filmathon, the event is usually partnered with government agencies, local government units and private companies.

Past editions were held in Davao City, Tagum City, Nabunturan in Davao de Oro and in Intramuros in Manila. The previous filmathons were tourism promotion platforms and to push certain advocacies such as the 7th edition which was to promote the Against Single Use Plastics campaign of the City Government of Davao.

The 2018 filmathon was held in Manila in partnership with the Intramuros Administration to promote the historic walled city. (PIA/RG Alama)
