LAHORE, Pakistan - An Airbus 320 carrying 171 passengers narrowly avoided an accident at Allama Iqbal International Airport, Pakistan's second-largest airport, on Wednesday, when the pilot attempted to land on the wrong runway but was promptly alerted, saving precious lives.

According to the sources, the control tower alerted a flight from Kyrgyzstan when the captain was about to land at the Lahore airport's runway 18-L, which has been closed for the last two years.

According to the sources, "the foreign pilot of flight 4541 took a round in the air and landed at runway 36-L upon intimation."

The Civil Aviation Authority, CAA, has opened an investigation into the incident.

There were 171 passengers on board, as well as eight crew members.
