DUBLIN, Ireland - A man in his 30s appeared in court on Wednesday morning following a major drug seizure at Cork Airport, where customs officers and Gardaí intercepted cocaine with an estimated street value of €1 million.

The operation unfolded earlier in the week, on Monday, when officers from Customs, assisted by the Cork City Divisional Drugs Unit, stopped and searched a passenger at the airport. During the search, they uncovered a number of packages containing what is believed to be cocaine.

The man was immediately arrested at the scene and taken to a Garda station in Cork, where he was detained. The legislation allows for the detention of suspected drug traffickers for up to seven days.

The seized drugs have been sent to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for full analysis to confirm their composition and purity. Following the completion of the forensic examination, the man was formally charged in connection with the seizure, ahead of his appearance before Cork District Court on Wednesday morning

Gardaí have confirmed that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
