Kochi (Keralam) [India], September 30 (ANI): A fire incident was reported on Tuesday at the historic Old Harbour Hotel at Fort Kochi.

Following a request for assistance from the Commissioner of Police, Kochi, the Southern Naval Command promptly mobilised firefighting resources to assist the civil authorities in containing the fire.

Accordingly, Defence Fire Tenders (DFT) from INS Dronachar, INS Venduruthy & INS Garuda were immediately pressed into service. The naval teams actively participated in the fire-fighting operation alongside the local fire and police authorities and contributed towards bringing the fire under control.

Through coordinated and sustained efforts by the responding agencies, the fire was brought under control.

A release said the prompt response and assistance rendered by the Indian Navy reaffirm the Southern Naval Command's commitment to supporting the civil administration and local authorities during emergencies and disasters, in keeping with the Navy's role in providing assistance to the civil authorities whenever required.
